Normal biosecurity restrictions apply while at Lord Howe Island; no food or animals are to be taken onto the Island from the vessel.

Note: All vessels arriving at Norfolk Island from overseas ports or departing from Norfolk Island to an overseas post must undertake Australian immigration, customs, and biosecurity clearance at Norfolk Island.
Vessels intending to depart from an Australian mainland port to Norfolk Island must obtain a Customs clearance from the Australian Border Force (ABF). Although such movement of crew and passengers is considered domestic travel, customs controls remain in place over all goods (including the vessel). All vessels must report to the ABF on Norfolk Island on arrival.
Vessels that have arrived at Norfolk Island from an overseas port and intend to travel to an Australian mainland port must request customs clearance from the ABF before departing. Clearances will only be given to proceed directly to another Australian ‘Port of Entry’ where further clearance will be undertaken on arrival. Masters of vessels should note the restrictions on the availability of Lord Howe Island as a port of entry.

Description Approach is from Cid Harbour. Stay 150 meters off the port shore and have a lookout posted! This is a small and shallow anchorage. Maximum of 5 boats in this anchorage. Allow plenty of swinging room.

We were snorkeling Yes at Sunlovers Beach on the north-western side. About where the marker is. Along either side of the beach where green mooring is. It’s not the best coral here, but I can see some black sea urchins around here.

Description South Molle Island – Bauer Bay has a great bushwalk on the Ngaro Sea Trail. It takes you to the top of Spion Kop, offering spectacular views; en route, you can visit some culturally significant sites.

STONEHAVEN
Description The Northern half of Stonehaven: The Stonehaven area requires particular vigilance because of the extensive reefs of Langford, Black, and Hayman Islands. Use extreme caution when navigating this area! This is a motor-only area! Anchoring is quite profound; just off Anchor Point, you will find a depth of 8-10 meters. The holding is good, although a little exposed to bullets in fresh South-East winds.

BLUE PEARL BAY
Description Blue Pearl Bay is a popular Snorkel/ Dive location used by many day boats. The water here is too deep to anchor; limited moorings are available. Extreme caution must be used when in your dinghy. Be on the lookout for swimmers and scuba divers (3-knot speed limit)

Description: A tremendous overnight location. Care must be taken when approaching Butterfly Bay; beware of the fringing reef on the western side, as it juts out a long way! Anchoring is prohibited here! The Western bay gives the most protection, particularly from swell in North Easterlies.

Things of Interest This bay is shaped like a butterfly; coincidentally, colonies of butterflies may be found at times in the moist shade of trees along the creekbeds. The point that separates this anchorage is nice flat elevated rocks for sunbathing. The small beach on the western side makes for fascinating exploration. Watch out for stingrays when walking in the shallow water on the sand flats (shuffle your feet).
MAUREENS COVE
Description: This bay offers excellent dive and snorkeling sites and is a delightful spot to stop for lunch.

Description: Pay particular attention to your anchoring here; the bank is steep, and you will need to get your anchor on the 5-meter mark, or you will drag your anchor. Five boats maximum at any time in this anchorage!

TONGUE BAY
Description Tongue Bay is an excellent base to access the walk to the Hill Inlet lookout, which offers “must-see” views down Whitehaven Beach and Hill Inlet. The beach on the Tounge Bay anchorage side is accessible only at high or near high tide (A minimum of 1.2 meters of water is needed to cross the reef) alternatively, take the tender around Tongue Point to Betty’s beach (sandy) on the Hill Inlet side.
